The name: Spokes and Shoes Sagas

The name Spokes and Shoes Sagas reflects the dual spirit of this adventure: the ‘spokes’ representing the wheels that will carry me across borders, and the ‘shoes’ symbolizing the footsteps that will bring me closer to South America’s heart. Together, they weave a saga of endurance, discovery, and the stories shared along the way.

July – September 2026

With fresh gear and recharged batteries, the South American expedition resumes. The next major chapter takes me through the dramatic, contrasting landscapes of Southern Peru before crossing the border into Bolivia. From desert coasts with the Nazca Lines into the Andes with a visit to Arequipa leading to Lake Titica before entering the Bolivian Altiplano.

October – November 2026

Crossing the border into Bolivia means stepping onto the Altiplano—the high-altitude heart of the Andes. This chapter promises to be one of the most visually surreal and physically demanding stretches of the entire expedition, balancing intense urban energy in La Paz with absolute natural isolation in the Salar de Uyuni.

November – December 2026

Leaving the Andes behind to pedal east into the immense, cactus-and-scrub expanse of the Chaco. Six weeks of heavy touring along the isolated line of Ruta 81—navigating remote stops like Laguna Yema, heat waves, and endless tarmac before rolling across the border into Asunción for the new year.

January 2027

~350 km of heavy touring across Paraguay’s lush midsection. Trading Chaco dust for undulating paved rollers, sub-tropical humidity, and vibrant red-dirt country. A sustained push east straight into the Triple Frontier to end at the edge of the world’s greatest waterfalls.

January – February 2027

Swapping red jungle dirt for coastal asphalt and maritime gales. A grueling pedal east through the mountains to touch the Atlantic, followed by a relentless southbound line past endless beaches, fishing outposts, and coastal lagoons toward the rolling plains of Uruguay.

February – March 2027

~450 km of coastal touring along Uruguay’s oceanic fringe. Rolling through windswept fishing hamlets and protected lagoons on quiet coastal tarmac, catching maritime tailwinds all the way into the capital. The expedition culminates at the Montevideo docks, boarding the ferry across the Río de la Plata to roll into Argentina’s capital on two wheels.

April 2027 – February 2028

With the Atlantic behind me, all roads point toward Ushuaia. The exact line south remains unwritten—whether that means wrestling the infamous crosswinds of Argentina’s Ruta 40, cutting west into the temperate rainforests and loose gravel of Chile’s Carretera Austral, or linking a zigzag of Andean passes all the way to Tierra del Fuego. A wild, unscripted finish to the southern tip of the continent.
